A Note From Nick:

July has a lot to remember!
Not only do we celebrate the birthday of our country on the 4th (1776 ~ Declaration of Independence) the church has several people that we acknowledge for their gifts of service during July.
11th Benedict of Nursia c. 540 founded western monasticism with the Rule of Benedict for daily living in a monastery.
17th William White c. 1836 one of the first three bishops of the new Episcopal Church in America and the Bishop of Pennsylvania.
22nd St. Mary Magdalene was healed by Jesus and became one of his followers. Was at the cross at His death.
24th Thomas a Kempis c. 1471 a great medival Christian writer. Wrote “The Imitation of Christ”, translated into more languages than any book except the Bible.
25th St. James the Apostle along with his brother, John, they were known as the “Sons of Thunder”. One of the twelve apostles and Acts (12: 1-2) tells that he was killed by King Herod with a sword.
26th Parents of the Virgin Mary. Tradition tells us that they were Joachim and Anne.
27th William Reed Huntington c. 1909. A priest whose leadership in the House of Deputies in the General Convention during a period of intense stress and conflict held the church together when some left to form the Reformed Episcopal Church.
29th Mary and Martha of Bethany. Friends and followers of Jesus who had given life back to their brother Lazarus after being dead for four days.
30th William Wilberforce c. 1833. An Englishman and member of Parliament for many years. Converted to Christianity in 1784. Sought to reform public manners and morals and launched a single-minded crusade for the abolition of slavery and the slave trade.
31st Joseph of Aramathea. A wealthy man who was a secret disciple of Jesus. He allowed Jesus to be buried in his unused tomb after he was wrapped in fine linen.
As you can see, we remember a number of wonderful people who have shared their gifts as they served our Lord and His church.
We also stop on the 4th to give thanks for our freedom and to the many men and women who have sacrificed their time talent, wisdom and even their lives to keep us free and safe in our own country.
God Bless America!
